Explosion in the Playground!

On 19th March 2010 we had a visit from South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue.  They came to show us what not to do if you have an oil fire in your kitchen.

Below is a piece of work by Lucy Round.

A Recount Of When The Fire Fighters Came

On Friday 19th March 2010 three fire fighters came to Springvale Primary School.  They had a pan with oil in it.  The pan had a little bit of fire in it, however when they put a bit of tap water in the pan, lots of flames came out of the pan.  It was amazing.  They kept putting water on it.

They told us not to put water on a fire ever or our kitchen would explode.  If you were upstairs and ther was a fire you should go into your bedroom and close the door.  Then feel the door... if it is warmyou should put your bed covers on the floor against the door to keep the air and the smoke out, open your window and shout for help.  or if you were in your kitchen you should get out of your kitchen door, close it and ring 999!

Then the fire fighters would come and put out the flames for you and keep you safe.
